Konqueror - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Konqueror is a file manager, web browser and file viewer, which was developed as part of the K Desktop Environment (KDE) by volunteers and runs on most Unix-like operating systems.
Using the KParts object model, Konqueror executes components that are capable of viewing (and sometimes editing) specific filetypes and embeds their client area directly into the Konqueror panel in which the respective files have been opened.
Although Konqueror is primarily developed for Linux, it is available for some other platforms such as BSD, Solaris, and recently Microsoft Windows (while still very limited).  Full Windows support is planned for Konqueror 4.0, which will be a part of KDE 4.0.

 Konqueror
Konqueror is part of the K Desktop Environment (KDE), primarily developed for the Linux platform, but also available for some other platforms (including BSD and, recently, Microsoft Windows, although Windows support is very limited).
Konqueror's user interface is somewhat reminiscent of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, even though it is more customizable.
Konqueror's rendering speed is on par with that of competing browsers, but sites with malformed HTML are sometimes less leniently rendered than by other browsers.

 Konqueror 3.5.4 Review - Konqueror 3.5.4 Download
Konqueror is the canvas for all the latest KDE technology, from KIO slaves (which provide mechanisms for file access) to component embedding via the KParts object interface, and it is one of the most customizable applications available.
Konqueror was developed to be a universal file manager, web browser and file viewer for the K Desktop Environment.
Konqueror came a long way since its first public release and now it's reached a point where some final modifications are made and the few remaining annoyances are being removed.

 Konqueror - Wikipedia

In Konqueror, fairly often, lines like this are truncated--note that you don't see the "which to select." portion of the sentence.
Because Konqueror seems to be the only browser that cannot handle this link drawing, and the browser is not used a lot (I suppose), I figured we could wait for a Konqueror update.
Now that Konqueror has passed the Acid2 test, any bugs should be in the code, not in the browser.

Welcome to Konqueror > Browsing Your Filesystem with Konquerer   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Konqueror is different than other file managers and Web browsers that you may have encountered because it is really a generic browser, capable of viewing not only directory listings and Web pages, but many other things as well.
Konqueror achieves this by using uniform resource locators (URLs) for all the paths that it browses and by using plug-in modules to display various types of information.
Because all the things that Konqueror can browse are treated the same, Konqueror enables you to perform operations conveniently, with little regard for the location of the item you are manipulating.

Interview With KDE's Konqueror Team - OSNews.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
A month ago, the AtheOS developer ported Konqueror (or to be more specific, the KHTML part) to his operating system.
I have to be a bit strict at this point and say that Konqueror takes 4-5 seconds to load in my dual 533 PC (and it is already object prelinked) and sometimes it even feels rather slow at places.
Any stripping down would have to happen in Konqueror (which provides the user-interface) because KHTML only provides the rendering engine, there is little that can be stripped from the rendering engine without sacrifying standards compliance.

Unfortunately Konqueror does not yet have any JavaScript Error Messages, so if a script doesn't work you'll have to guess what the reason is. I've asked the developers to consider building in error messages.

LinuxPlanet - Previews - Konquering the Web - Konqueror: More than a Web Browser
A friend, having looked at Konqueror's Web page, recently dropped me a note: "What won't it do?" The answer is, not much--it performs all the tasks you could imagine and some that you haven't dared imagine.
With Konqueror, though, the user is constantly thinking, "but of course!" because it works the way one would expect.
(Konqueror is also launched when you click on a URL in a KMail message.) There is a dropbox, typical of browsers, that lists recently typed-in URLs, which is especially helpful if you need to return repeatedly to a subdirectory several levels down in the filesystem.

Konqueror also works well with KGet, a download manager that allows you to drag and drop links to download files, and amaroK, for listening to music streams.
Konqueror's tab features are similar to those of Firefox, but Konqueror allows you to detach tabs using the context menu.

Is Konqueror just too much? - Ubuntu Forums
A lot of people feel that by trying to do everything, Konqueror has become just too cumbersome and that it'd be better off replaced by a separate web browser, file manager, and document viewer.
I personally think Konqueror is great how it is. But maybe it'd be a good idea to give it the ability to split up into smaller seperate parts as requested by the user.

LWN: Konqueror wins MozillaQuest Magazine Editor's Choice award
To be honest, I've used KDE since 1.0 but the browser has never been up to the level of the alternatives, execpt possibly for a brief period when Nestcape we dying and mozilla was too big and slow.
In KDE, "launching" Konqueror (it's mostly preloaded) doesn't use up much memory at all, and is very fast; then again, this process is similar to "File->open" in a word processor, as really you're not "launching" the program, just telling it to pop up another window (instantaneous and low memory operation).
Anyway it seems the claims of konqueror on win32 have been grossly exagerated (granted it may be possible to do so).
