Constantine Kanaris (or Canaris, Greek: Κωνσταντίνος Κανάρης, 1793 or 1795-September 2, 1877) was a Greek admiral, freedom fighter and politician.
He was born on the Aegean Sea island of Psara[?] as a son of Michael and Maria Kanaris.
Kanaris served as Minister in various governments and then as Prime Minister from March 11- April 11, 1844.

FFGH KANARIS (F 464) is the former HNLMS JAN VAN BRAKEL (F-825), launched on the 16th May 1981 at the ROYAL SHELDE shipyards in Holland and commissioned on the 14th April 1983.
On the 29th of November 2002 she was acquired by the Hellenic Navy and was renamed "KANARIS", becoming the 8th Standard class frigate of the Hellenic fleet.The ship's name derives from the hero Konstantinos Kanaris, who participated gloriously in the Hellenic Revolution in 1821, serving the Navy.
Konstantinos Kanaris was born in 1790 in Psara Island and was initiated into the secrets of the navy since he was very young.

In 1780 a section of Lapithos was split off to form a new village, Karavas.
During the Greek War of Independence on 18-21 June 1821, Konstantinos Kanaris, captain of a fire ship and one of the important figures of the Greek Revolution, paid a visit to Lapithos in order to take provisions and to recruit men.
During the following nights sailors from Kanaris' fire ship unearthed the stuff, loaded it on board and left with sixteen new recruits.
