Hallelujah won the inaugural title, finishing one point ahead of Daewoo to lift the crown. In 1994, after the long doldrums on the league, the Korea's soccer league was reformed and renamed as the K-League, since then, the league has expanded to fourteen teams for the 2006 season.
Of the five initial clubs of the former professional league, only Daewoo, POSCO and Yukong Elephants remain in the K-League; Kookmin Bank FC dropped out of the league at the end of 1984, and Hallelujah followed the season after.

FT.com / Home UK / UK - Lone Star bank rescue attracts little thanks
With the bank’s market capitalisation approaching $10bn, Lone Star is expected to take a $3bn profit out of Korea when it sells its 51 per cent stake, which it bought in October 2003 for Won1,380bn ($1.4bn).
Indeed, Woori Bank has capitalised on the anti-foreign sentiment by claiming to be the country’s only “native” bank, saying its 12 per cent foreign ownership – by far the lowest among domestic banks – means that 88 per cent of its profits stay in the country.
If Kookmin or Hana bank are successful in winning KEB, the return of the bank to domestic hands could appease political concerns, especially if Lone Star compromises and tries to settle some of the disputes.
