NewsForge | Can Kopete replace GAIM and XChat?
Kopete isn't as good an IRC client as XChat for hard-core IRCers -- the kind of people who (like me) may be on between three and five networks at a time, often logged into several password-protected channels, but it's more than good enough for entry-level or lightweight IRC users.
Kopete is one of those programs, and the 0.8 release I'm using that came with KDE 3.2 is much better than Kopete was when I last tried it, and well-integrated with the rest of KDE, too.
Kopete didn't either, for a while, and we don't know when AOL, Microsoft or Yahoo will do their next "upgrade" designed to break independent applications that connect to them, so saying "Kopete works with xxx and GAIM doesn't" may not be true next month.

As I said I was almost sure it was kopete bug (i filed report on kde bugs) but with new Nvidia driver (8756) it all works for almost an hour now.
Kopete is now crashing X in a same way as before Another thing I noticed is that before reboot glxgears were showing up 1200FPS and now 230FPS.
EDIT : I try to reproduce the bug, I'm using debian sid, all packages are from official repositories except kopete, I use kopete 0.12 from kopete svn (and nvidia 8756 from nvidia) and it doesn't crash with xcompmgr and kompmgr.

Kopete: instant messaging for KDE | Badopi
Through KDE hispano, and thanks to Pedro Jurado, I was made aware of Kopete's 0.7 release.
The appearance of message windows is very customizable, but it is done in XSL (eXtensible Stylesheet Language), a very powerful and standard language, but it is not very popular, and it is not specially easy.
Also, I never said it should be impossible to configure Kopete to act like you think most people in the world expect (I think a minority expects that, but that is a different matter).

*) Performance, Kopete is an event driven single threaded app, but events may come from several network sockets or from the user or from the many timers we use for UI eye candy, so it feels slow.
This makes Kopete a more vital project, easier to attract developers from various areas, easier to maintain.

I've recently switched from Gaim to Kopete but I *really* miss the Jabber typing indicator (I mostly use Jabber on my server).
Does Kopete offer a better interface than Gaim's multi-window cascade of horror (example: when I'm connected to several services and the Internet connection is lost (which happens often as I'm using a laptop) many annoying dialogs alert me several times repeatedly again and again that the connection is lost)?
Kopete seems nice but I find that it has a couple annoying bugs (it never remembers the window or toolbar positions/sizes) and it is missing some features that Licq had.
