The kopis is an ancient single-edged sword with a heavy forward-curving blade, designed for delivering strong cleaving blows.
In turn, it is often compared to the shorter Nepalese kukri and the Iberian falcata and may be their predecessor.
Though kopis is a Greek word, the ancient Greeks did not often use curved blades in warfare, preferring rather the straight, more martially versatile xiphos.

The Kopis (first came about around 500BC and was made of iron) is often associated with the kukri, due to Alexander the Greats defeat of the Indians in Punjab (then Northern India) at the battle of Hydaspes in 326 BC.
Also many mercenary troops for the Greeks used the Kopis as well, such as the Dii tribesman (modern Bulgaria) and the Etruscians (Northern Italy, whose alphabet is based on the Greek alphabet, due to the heavy Greek colonisation of that area).
Another possible name for the Kopis that you might hear of is the Machaira, which in Greek refers to Knife types where as the word Kopis (pronounced Gopis) refers to clever type weapons and is a more accurate terminology.

Rawson, in The Indian Sword, writes: 'The direct ancestor of the Kukri was no doubt the sword with a Kopis blade, but in the blades of certain Kukris it is clear that the conception of the forward angled blade, not the pure Kopis, underlies the form [see below picture 'Kopis-blade forms of the Indian subcontinent'].
Swords of this type are found as 'Kopis' on Greek vase paintings...both the word and the type are Egyptian...the classification ['Kopis'] covers the Turkish and Balkan Yataghan, the [Nepalese] Kukri, the [Indian] Sosun Pattah, and the South Indian flamboyant sword.
Blades of pure Kopis form appear in India in the sixth century, at Ajanta, and persist into modern times.

This form has the same basic concept as early European dusacks, which were essentially a large blade with large aperture which acted as an opening for the hand to grip the blade.
The form of the grip and pommel bears striking similarity to Arab saifs of Yemen and Hadhramaut which associate with the familiar 'nimcha' hilt, and the knuckleguard and slight nock in the grip recall those on the 'kastane' of 18th c.
As has been mentioned, the 'peacock' in the motif suggests Mughal association, and the weapon itself seems likely from southern India regions that were part of Arab ports of call, possibly Malabar, and again may be an interpretation of the early kopis hilts, with Arabian influence in the style.

There are also small grooves (too small IMO to qualify as fullers), one of which runs all the way from the hilt to the (rounded) point along the concave side - which suggests that side is the "back" of the blade.
Those two bits of evidence, and the grip-shape mentioned already, are enough to convince me that this particular sword, though AKA "sickle-sword", was sharp on the outer face of its curve and wasn't an early form of shotel, kopis or khukri.
Of course this non-Egyptian example doesn't prove that Egyptian versions weren't sharpened on the other side, but the general configuration leads me to think that a convex edge would be more efficient.
