		Korangi and Landhi were established in the early 1960s for displaced families that had come from British India after the partition of 1947, and which were living in squatter settlements near founding-father Muhammad Ali Jinnah's mausoleum in the heart of the city.
		The generation raised in the early 1960s in Korangi and Landhi was ambitious, and despite their poor background, many reached the top ladders of the corporate, social and sporting worlds, while others established themselves at lower and middle levels in government offices.
		When Akhtar started going to his nearby mosque in Korangi four years ago, everybody in his family was happy that he had separated himself from the drug addicts and goons of the neighborhood, as well as from the ethnocentric parties of the area known for their terror, militancy and extortion.

		The police said that Saghir Husain Kazmi, aged 35, was shot dead by three men in Korangi's sector 35-C. Mr Saghir came to see his friend Khursheed.
		The Town Police Officer of Korangi, Javed Baloch, told Dawn that it was a target killing, but hastened to add that it would be premature to describe it as a sectarian killing.
		The victim's father lodged an FIR at Korangi police station.

		The tanning industry outgrown in Korangi Sector 7-A has also earned notoriety for its heavy polluted effluent having high content of organic and inorganic, dissolved and suspended solids, with a high oxygen demand and toxic metal salt residues.
		The EPA chief clarified that two show cause notices were issued to M/s Continental and Navena Textile for causing pollution on the Main Korangi Road and throwing their effluent at a public place.

	KARACHI: Water protesters attack Korangi XEN office -DAWN - Local; 25 June, 2004
		KARACHI, June 24: Situation caused due to persisting water shortage in different sectors of Korangi on Thursday took an ugly turn when residents of the water-starved localities ransacked the office of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board's executive engineer, situated at Korangi No 5.
		According to sources, a number of residents of Korangi's sectors 32 and 34, on Thursday, reached the XEN office to apprise the officials concerned of their problem, but on getting no satisfactory reply from the officials, they resorted to violence and caused damage to the office's furniture.
		Asked about the causes of persisting water shortage in Korangi and Landhi, the KWSB sources accused the board officials at its Water Trunk Main division of not releasing the sanctioned quota of water to the affected localities of Korangi and Landhi.

		A bullet riddled body of Rahat Ali, 35, was found near Bismillah Petrol Pump in Korangi No 3-1/2.The body was shifted to JPMC by the police.
		Altaf claimed that Mohammed Ali was killed by " Haqiqi Terrorists." The press release issued by Muttahida stated that a number of MQM workers had been killed by the terrorists in Korangi during last few weeks, but none of the killers, though most of them identified, have not been arrested so far.

		The Urban Resource Centre and Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) had objected that the Korangi Wastewater Treatment Project was technically flawed and was not viable.
		OPP also maintained that the project could be completed at one-fourth of the cost estimated.

	KARACHI: Korangi to have driving licence branch -DAWN - Local; 27 April 2005
		Earlier, a driving licence branch was set up in Nazimabad on Sept 20, 2004, to cater the need of the growing demand as the volume of vehicles is increasing each day.
		Official sources said that the police had chosen a building in Korangi No 5, which is called Civic Centre Korangi.
		The building was occupied by Rangers and the dialogue was held between the police and Rangers for the establishment of the driving licence branch there.
