		The district administration has made elaborate security arrange- ments in Korba town and around the BALCO plant to prevent any untowards as local people and large number of congress workers were gathering there in support of the agitation.

		The talks between the striking unions and the Centre to resolve the Balco imbroglio ended in a virtual stalemate on Monday with the government turning down the demand for change in equity pattern of the company, where it sold 51 per cent (equity) to Sterlite Industries.

		The State-owned generation utility is in the process of getting clearances from the Centre for the Korba venture to kickstart its foray into the electricity distribution business.

		The Government moved an application on Wednesday in the Supreme Court against what it termed as State-sponsored stoppage of work in the Balco plant at Korba in Chhattisgarh.
