  Sensei's Library: Korean name
Korean family names typically consist of one syllable, while given names usually comprise two syllables.
Koreans often romanize personal names and names of companies in ad-hoc manners; romanized names tend to reflect personal preference instead of specific romanization styles.
The normal word for 'name' in general is 'ireum.' 'Seongmyeong' is a polite way of saying 'name,' as when asking an older person for their name, or as used in forms and documents.

Also, when people with only given names (lower class, and domestic slaves) were allowed to use (or to buy) family names, they preferred to use one out of existing names instead of creating new and thereby recognizable names for their own benefit.
To summarize, a typical (traditional) Korean name consists of a family name, a generational name, and a given name.
Since a generational name is not a middle name in American sense, and not exactly a given name either, Koreans are not sure how to anglicize their names.

MindZine - Go - Korea: Korean name variants
The problem for us at MSO is that we try to give a truly comprehensive coverage of the Korean scene, and so we are constantly referring to minor players, amateurs, officials and companies where the idiosyncratic readings are not known and would be hard to discover.
Furthermore, we often refer to Korean place names, which - belonging to no-one in particular - are usually written in a form close to the official or McCune-Reischauer systems.
A problem here is that Korean has pairs of sounds variously rendered as, for example, t-t' or d-t (not to mention emphasised variants) and it can be difficult to know which letter is intended in the original.

Sallie and her husband Jason Antrosio chose the English name Sabrina for their daughter (matching the S and long E in Antrosio), but her side of the family all got together and decided on Tuk Yoon as a Korean name.
Instead, they named their daughter Sophia Rose Katz, because they love the way it rolls off the tongue: The S/Z sounds create a phonetic echo among all three names, and the long Os in Sophia and Rose repeat, too.
But they also gave her the Hebrew name Tvuna Shoshana: Tvuna is the Hebrew word for wisdom, and Sophia means wisdom in Greek; Shoshana means Rose, which is Sophie's middle name; and the Anglicized version of Shoshana is Susan and all it's variations, so it's also similar to Suzanne.
