The Korg M1 The Korg M1 was the world's first widely-known music workstation and is the best-selling digital keyboard of all time, surpassing even the Yamaha DX7.
Prior to the arrival of the Korg M1, the Yamaha DX7 and the Roland D-50 were the best-selling digital synthesizers.
Rackmount versions of the M1 and the O series were offered, some of which featured the sequencer, a rare feature on today's synth racks.

When the Korg M1 was previewed at the 1988 winter NAMM show, no one predicted that it would become the world's best-selling synthesizer workstation.
InVision introduced the M1 Plus One expansion board, which had 4 MB of sparkling new samples such as organs, guitars, and flutes; those samples are preinstalled on the M1 Plus One.
In 2001 Korg's support for the M1 is limited to repairs and replacement of the original patch data.

If the M1 and computer are not MIDI connected, the only way to restore this data is with a $100 US blank MCR-03 RAM card containing your backup or a $50 US Factory Sounds ROM card from Voice Crystal.
If the M1 and computer are MIDI connected, transfer the “Factory” backup file in the prog/combi download to restore the original sounds, drum kits, and global settings.
The M1 must be in sequencer mode to record/play more than one sound with an external sequencer, because only SEQ mode allows MIDI data exchange over all eight channels simultaneously.

The Sequence section can be enlarged by the re-formatting the M1 from 100 Patches and Combinations to 50 Patches and Combinations.
My manual states that the M1 can hold 10 songs in it's Sequencer when set to 100 Patches/Combinations, but I think it is really dependent on how much data is in the sequences themselves.
It's two independent Effects sections may be run in serial or parallel and can be panned to any of it's four outputs.

In fact, the Wavestation also drew heritage from Korg Japan's PCM sample-playback keyboards (specifically the M1), resulting in a ROM sample-based machine with weak onboard filtering.
Nonetheless, it is a very powerful synthesiser: in addition to vector mixing (a 2-dimensional envelope controlling audio balance between four voices), it features wave sequencing, allowing a voice to play a loopable sequence of PCM samples, which may be rhythmic, cross-faded, or both.
Re-grease the key guides with perhaps a silicon or lithium grease (you may be able to obtain the original type of grease from your Korg distributor).
