OASYS is not only an entirely new instrument, but a completely new platform to support Korg innovation for years to come.
Korg’s famous Combination structure – introduced nearly 20 years ago in the M-1 – has been expanded, now allowing up to 16 Programs to be split and layered across the keyboard.
The control surface of OASYS provides direct access to your nine drawbars via the sliders (with on-screen visual indication of their current values); switches to access the vibrato/chorus, percussion and all traditional tonewheel organ controls are laid out in a logical and familiar manner.

Korg OASYS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Korg OASYS is a workstation synthesizer released in early 2005, 1 year after the successful Korg Triton Extreme.
It features Korg's OASYS (acronym for Open Architecture SYnthesis Studio) technology, which allows multiple synthesis engines to be used simultaneously.
The OASYS also includes second-generation KARMA technology (with the first generation having first appeared in the Korg KARMA).

O'Reilly -- Inside a Luxury Synth: Creating the Linux-Powered Korg OASYS   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
When the OASYS was unveiled at the NAMM show in January after years of rumors and anticipation, people didn't talk about specs.
Although this is the first shipping keyboard to bear the name OASYS, Korg has shipped products based on the same technology; the same RandD team developed the original OASYS keyboard prototype and the later OASYS PCI, a PCI card and software platform for PC and Mac.
The idea of OASYS was to meet the challenges of the open-platform design while choosing specifications that turned the keyboard into a luxury item, rather than a low-cost commodity instrument.

 KORG OASYS
Korg's new Oasys synth is based upon 'open-architecture' digital signal processing, which means it can be whatever its software tells it to be.
DSP, being digital, can't produce true analogue synthesis, but Oasys can accurately emulate it, so what Korg are telling us is that their new baby can be anything you want it to be -- and it can be several different things at the same time.
With a processing capability of over 220 million instructions per second, Oasys is considerably faster than the fastest desktop computers currently available, and though no announcement was made as to other applications for Oasys, the open DSP architecture suggests that it may also be capable of hard disk recording applications, with a suitable hard drive.

I had hoped that Korg and Steven Kay would release Karma software that would work with keys and or modules other than those from Korg, and in the early stages it seemed like they were moving in that diection, but then it didn't happen and I lost interest in the whole concept.
