Korn (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Korn is the self-titled debut album by Korn, released on October 11, 1994 through Immortal/Epic Records.
Korn is arguably the album most responsible for the rise of nu metal.
Detractors of this album also claim the sound of the down tuned guitars was ripped off from Helmet and that the emotion set by Davis is forced and tame.

Korn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Korn is arguably the album most responsible for the rise of nu metal and influencing later nu metal bands such as Limp Bizkit, Coal Chamber, Static-X, Adema and Slipknot.
Prior to the release of the band's 3rd album, Korn was featured once a week on their internet TV show, KornTV, which showed behind the scenes of the making of the record as well as special guests such as porn star Ron Jeremy, Limp Bizkit, 311 and many more.
Korn were not featured on the bill and instead only made surprise appearances at a few of the tour's stops to perform their first single off of their next album, "Falling Away From Me." The tour took a break in 2000 due to heavy competition.

Korn are to nu-metal as Nirvana are to grunge: they weren't the first ones on the scene, but their respective genres wouldn't be the same without them.
Korn: a word that will be remembered decades later for revolutionizing the age of nu-metal as Metallica is remembered for ushering in the age of hard rock.
It is Jon's presence on this album that adds the true essence of brilliance by showcasing not only his talent as a songwriter and vocalist, but by capturing the heartfelt emotion of anguish and pain, hate and anger, of his innermost demons that were released through the making of this album.

Just short of a decade into their incredibly successful and influential career, Korn went into Take a Look in the Mirror publicly stating their hopes to record a fresh-sounding album, a seemingly simple task that they somewhat ended up accomplishing.
They needed a fresh album -- one that differed from their past couple, the similar-sounding Issues (1999) and Untouchables (2001), yet at the same time wouldn't alienate their notoriously fickle nu-metal fan base.
And Korn do that very well on Take a Look in the Mirror, where they deftly consolidate their past strengths and self-produce a succinct album that sounds like trademark Korn -- yet purposefully doesn't sound like any Korn album to date.

Notice that Korn's seventh studio album is an "evolution" and not a "revolution".
Nevertheless, Korn have succeeded in bringing mainstream producers to inject freshness into their songs, without entering into a Faustian bargain and compromising their music.

The most frustrating part of this album is that in almost every song there is a melody or a riff that could have become a cool song if they would have just spent time on it.
For example, if you have a ton of friends that are completely dedicated you may like the album more or if it is the first Korn album you hear you may prefer it over others.
So if you are interested in Korn and have a preference for guitars and screaming this is a Korn album for you, I think, but then again it may be too soft for those types.
