Korpiklaani may sound a little bit weird as well as exotic in ears of readers.
Korpiklaani, meaning WoodClan, definitely share the same playground along with their land mates Finntroll, by combining the metal elements together with the folk influences and putting out great sounding stuff.
Even though Korpiklaani as a band is a new name in the genre, the background of the members lead all the way back to the early 90's when they used to be under the moniker Shaman (until former Angra members went on by forming a band called Shaman).

Korpiklaani is a different folk metal band from Suomi Finland, demonstrating a stronger traditional music influence than most of the bands of the genre in their style and more precisely in their last album called “Voice Of Wilderness” and released through Napalm Records.
I think Korpiklaani is most FOLK from the rest of the folk metal bands.

Although the band's mainman Jonne felt the name change was for the better; Korpiklaani have quickly recorded and released two full lengths; Spirit of the Forest and Voice of Wilderness, in as many years.

Korpiklaani literally translates to “Forest Clan”, and they play an exciting and novel form of organic folk melodies and traditional metal.
The first Korpiklaani album was originally going to be released as Shaman anyway, so the change was on its way even before the name change.
I obviously had to forward the question to Jonne and his reply was hilarious and it also defined Korpiklaani's music quite well.

Heard of and found this band through a friend, I was wondering how in the world this is supposed to be pronounced..
Then write Korpiklaani or any finnish word in the box and then click "Kuuntele puhe" -button.
