Coal was first discovered in the Korumburra area by James Brown, in 1872, whilst he was returning overland from the Stockyard Creek (Foster) gold diggings.
One of the lines was to Korumburra - initially it began as a line to Whitelaw's Track, because at that time Korumburra didn't exist, then it was extended to Koorooman (Leongatha) and, finally, when con- tracts were let, Port Albert became the destination.
Of course, the opening of this railway connection was crucial to the operation of the mines at Korumburra, as mines and railways always go hand in hand.

I have played Korumburra a few times and all I can see is that it isn't the best course going around.
It does have some very intersting holes that are worth a look but I feel the difficulty created by the lack of flat ground outweighs this.

Whichever side of the road chosen, we all rode off to Noogee where we stopped for a cup of coffee and a chat with a couple of riders (who shall remain nameless!) who decided that riding to Ferntree Gully just to ride back was too hard - it wasn't snowing ;-) !
