Following a stormy election, Michal Korybut Wisniowiecki, called "Piast" (referring to Poland's earliest dynasty) was elected in 1669.
The infantry was lightly dressed without helmets or armour and armed with musket, short sword and hatchet.

Not far from the market square, in the 5 Podwale Street, there is the former city armory dating back to 1555 and decorated with the coat of arms of Jan III and Commander-in-Chief, Jablonowski.
The former royal armory built in 1638 by King Wladyslaw IV is also to be found here and is today home to the State archives.
