		Kosciusko County was organized between the years of 1835 and 1837, and is named in honor of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a Polish Noble who fought with George Washington in the Revolutionary War.
		Kosciusko County is privileged to have a wealth of natural lakes, which provide recreational boating, fishing, and general enjoyment.

		We also facilitate the safe and expedient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, provide neighborhood patrols, and serve as a presence for the deterrence of crime.
		The police department was formally established in 1836, twenty five years before the Civil War, with the appointment of the first Town Marshall.
		The department is responsible for the enforcement of city ordinances, state and federal laws within the city limits of Kosciusko, an area encompassing approximately 7.6 square miles and populated by 7,372 residents.

		The Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a local unit of the Indiana state government responsible for the conservation and development of our soil, water, and related natural resources through education, public information, leadership, technical assistance, and development of innovative programs.
		The SWCD is governed by a board of five supervisors, who are Kosciusko County citizens.
		Three are elected by landowners in the county and two are appointed by the State Soil Conservation Board, upon recommendation from the local SWCD.
