  Kosso
Kosso (Hagenia abyssinica) is one of the most antique remedies, used to expell tapeworms from the intestines.
Coming back to science, the amount of kosso taken at any given time is not standardized, and the method of preparation varies from household to household.
In view of the toxicity associated with the chronic use of kosso, it doesn't appear to be an herbal medicine of choice for treating tapeworm infestation.

Kosso - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kosso, kousso or cusso, is a drug which consists of the panicles of the pistillate flowers of Brayera anthelmintica, a handsome rosaceous tree 60 ft. high, growing throughout the table-land of Abyssinia, at an elevation of 3000 to 8000 ft. above the sea-level.
The drug as imported is in the form of cylindrical rolls, about 18 in.
Kosso is also used in the form of an unstrained infusion of the coarsely powdered flowers, which are swallowed with the liquid.

However, the results obtained suggest need for further study of Kosso levels, since cestode egg levels were similar among nonzero levels and numerically the number was greater for the 60 vs 20 and 40 g doses.
Kosso appears to hold promise as an anthelmintic for cestode control in goats.
However, further research is needed to determine optimal levels of Kosso, as well as to identify mode of action and specific fraction(s) of Kosso with anthelmintic activity.

 Anthropology 508: Announcements
Kosso offers a post-positivist, or critical-realist account of the enterprise we call science and just what is about scientific claims that renders them credible and yet always -- to varying degrees -- open to revision.
But in your papers, you should be able to discuss intelligently these issues and the way in which they emerge in the archaeological case studies that compris e the bulk of the reading for the course.
Getting clear in the issues raised by Kosso is fundamental to evaluating the stories archaeologists tell about the stuff they dig up and the theoretical tools they use to tell the stories.

Kosso begins by considering the role of theory in science.
In discussing how evidence can be objective, Kosso addresses a number of cases about "unobservables" and nicely shows the indirect route by which we make our scientific conclusions.
Ultimately, Kosso presents the coherence of observations as the central form of justification in science.

 Emperor Tewodros II
Kosso is a powerful drug used to expel intestinal parasites such as tapeworms, which Ethiopians were prone to get due to their high consumption of raw meat.
That she was forced to marry what she regarded as the son of a kosso seller, a minor noble who had usurped the throne, and who kept her father prisoner and her brothers fugitives, galled her to no end.
Deep down, Tewodros suspected that the Shewan royals had never considered the daughter of a usurper, and the granddaughter of a kosso seller, to be good enough for their Solomonic king.

“Entrenchment is a principle of conservatism” (Kosso 37); while it may restrain new scientific thought by demanding that it remain at least compatible with pre-existing thought, it is a useful restraint in that it allows more scientific progress to be made.
Science is a slow process–at one point Anna criticizes the impatient NIH for giving up on cancer and shifting to diabetes research–but without the guiding and conservative force of entrenchment it would be at a frenzied standstill.

The easy answer, as Kosso himself points out, is: "Science works: planes fly, vaccines work, etc." But Kosso gives us three reasons for thinking a complete answer to the original question may not be so simple.
According to Kosso, what is the fundamental aim of science (= of scientific theory)?
