In 1979, the two opened a modern koto school where each player’s individuality and personal dynamism is prized and sought after, and where traditional techniques and imitation of the master teacher take on a secondary role.
Kazue herself began studying the koto at age eight under the legendary Michio Miyagi, who designed the first bass koto and was the first to incorporate Western music elements into Japanese music.
Because of her tireless efforts to internationalize the koto through teaching countless students her challenging “stream of consciousness” approach to the koto instrument, Kazue Sawai is perhaps the most accessible koto player to Western ears.

Each Friday, various local citizens from Hikone or Shiga Prefecture, in an effort to facilitate the sister-state relationship between Shiga and the State of Michigan, participate in a number of specific activities designed to facilitate language acquisition through a direct involvement of JCMU students in “real life” situations.
All students are required to participate in the Friday Project activities in accordance with their level of language expertise and proficiency.
Through these activities, conducted mostly in Japanese but easily understood even by beginning language students because of their kinetic qualities, students are able to experience the language directly in a variety of “non- threatening” cultural and recreational situations and to begin to attempt communication with “real” individual Japanese in a controlled setting.

The story of the Yasutsugu lineage starts with the birth of the first generation, Ichizaemon, who is believed to have been born around the middle of the sixteenth century.
Some of his works were in the Keicho shinto style but he also reproduced swords in the older koto traditions such as Soshu.
Many of his swords show a tendency towards a straighter shape without the oversized Keicho Shinto dimensions which may be perceived as a precursor of the Kambun Shinto shape of the 1660's.

One of my favorite series of all time is a manga by Tsutsui Asahi (published by Margaret Comics) called "Nanji nayamu koto nakare".
It's a shoujo manga who's main character is a guy named Chiaki ^^ In a lot of ways I seem him as a typical high school guy...interested in girls a little too much, likes to act like he's tough, but is really a good guy.
So I don't think the mangaka had a problem writing him as true to life as a shoujo mangaka can write any character :P It's a fantastic little series with a fantastic leading character ^_^
