Kotoka has the capability of receiving airplanes up to the Boeing 747-400, and is the hub of Ghana Airways and DAS Air Cargo.

A Boeing 737-200 aircraft operated by Bellview Airlines of Nigeria made an emergency landing at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra yesterday after the pilot reported a hydraulic system failure.
He said on landing, the movement of the aircraft was hampered by the burst tyre, so it remained in the middle of the runway, leading to a temporary closure of the airport for 45 minutes during which the passengers were evacuated and the plane towed away.
According to sources close to the Kotoka International Airport, Bellview aircraft was banned from flying following a recent crash of its aircraft in Nigeria which killed more than 100 passengers.

Briefing the Graphic in Accra yesterday,the Crime Officer at the Airport Police Station,Assistant Superintendent of Police,Mr Francis Baah,said last Monday,the security co-ordinator of Aviance was going through a Kenya manifest and noticed something unusual.
He said the co-ordinator later had a tip-off that De-graft and Tetteh,who were on duty that day,had stolen the cargo,using a Blue Sky container truck to smuggle it out of the airport.
