Kotor is a town in southwestern Montenegro, population 19,000, Kotor municipality 23,481 (2003).
Between 1420-1797 Kotor and its surroundings belonged to Venice and the Venetian influence is evident in the architecture of the city.
Kotor was besieged by the Turks in 1538 and 1657, visited by plague in 1572, and nearly destroyed by earthquakes in 1563 and 1667.

Kotor town, with a population of 25 000, lies on the Montenegrin coast in the southern Adriatic.
The domed, single-nave basilica of St.Luke was built and decorated with frescoes in 1195; the church of St. Mary of the River, with a dome and roof of stone slabs, was built in 1221; the little church of St. Anne’s dates from the same period as St. Paul’s church built in 1263.
Kotor town has, among other things problems with: water supply; salt water intrusion; sewage; waste-water treatement and disposal; marine pollution; flood control in the old part of the town and solid waste treatement and disposal.

Kotor was first settled during the Ancient Rome Roman times, when it was known as ''Acruvium'' and was part of the Roman province of Dalmatia.

The promenade stretches nearly 7 Km winding along the coast of the Bay of Kotor, and it seems that not once inch of the promenade is not covered with cafes, shops, or other amusements.
Strolling along this promenade seems to be a highlight of many locals days, and I quite enjoyed my time walking along it as well, enjoying the amazing views of the bay and people watching while at the same time probably being people watched myself.
The building that houses the museum is rather beautiful as well, as it is a stately villa with amazing balcony views over the bay of Kotor.

At the end of the training the participants jointly participated in visiting the religious, cultural, historic and other monuments in Kotor region, as well as prepared a presentation of their activities to a few local civil society organizations of the hosting country.
This years training is considered as a follow-up as last years’ “Youth Reconciliation Initiative 2003” that took place in Ohrid Macedonia, with a participation of around 60 people from Kosovo and Macedonia.
