		April 26: The nomination paper of former Kerala Minister, R Balakrishna Pillai, as the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate from Kottarakara has been accepted by the Returning Officer (RO) for the constituency.
		The authorised representative of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate from Kottarakara, advocate Sasidharan Nair had contended that Pillai was not eligible to get the privilege as a sitting MLA under Section 8(4) of the Representation of the People Act.
		The scrutiny date was the crucial date, which had to be considered, as per the High Court ruling on that crucial date, Pillai was a sitting MLA, he said.

		Four more persons with symptoms of liquor poisoning were admitted to the medical college hospital in Trivandrum on Monday taking the total number of hooch victims under treatment for failing eye sight, severe headache and vomiting to 55, hospital sources said.
		The fresh cases were reported from Pattazhi in Kottarakara, Kalluvathukkal in Kollam and Kunnikode in Trivandrum, the sources said.
		The hooch tragedy in Kerala has so far claimed 34 lives since its outbreak at Kollam on October 21.
