The Kotuku is still underwater, but is on its way to Stewart Island after divers this afternoon managed to inflate the air bags which were positioned under the trawler yesterday.
TAIC Chief Investigator John Mockett says the boat is suspended just under the surface of the water and the crew is slowly towing her towards Stewart Island.
He says the Kotuku is not upright, so they will put her gently back on the sea floor once they get into shallow water.
