KCR - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation is responsible for the network's operations, which is in turn fully owned by the Hong Kong Government.
In December 1982 an ordinance was enacted, establishing the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) as a public corporation wholly owned by the Hong Kong government to operate and manage the KCR.
Before rebranding "Kowloon-Canton Railway" referred to the rail link between Kowloon and Canton (now Guangzhou), or specifically the "British Section" of the railway, which largely corresponded to the present-day KCR East Rail.

The human factor in rail incidents
In February 2004, the Executive Council, led by the then Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa, decided to invite the Mass Transit Railway Corporation Limited (MTRC) and KCRC to commence negotiation on a possible merger, to be concluded by August 31, 2004.
This was subsequent to the disclosure that KCRC failed to report to the Transport Department for nearly three weeks that there were cracks in the welding connecting some of its trains' bulky metal compressors that are commonly used in the braking system.
All the time when we debate the pros and cons of the merger in public, and set various target deadlines for the deals, all we care about seem to be the figures, and the balance between the interest of MTRC shareholders against that of the public.
