In the News (Fri 25 Dec 09)

Koya NKP Muthu - Surrealist Painter and artist from India
Koya's work expresses a critical awareness of the decadence and anarchy of life and concern about the lunacies of global power mongering, which in turn have been shaped by the experiences of his multifaceted life as artist, civil servant, media man, exhibit designer, art director, rationalist etc.
The expressed outbursts in Koya's paintings do not follow the familiar logic of distortion: in Salvador Dali, for instance, the forms are drenched sheets hung out in folds to dry; in Stanley Spencer, the human form is subjected to a tubular distortion and similarly Modigliani and Giocometti use a uniform treatment in distortion.
Koya does not follow any of these masters' methods, but prefers to be guided by his own instincts, which dictate a different treatment of these images.
