  The Krays (1990)
Technically The Krays is a proof of Medak's talent as the photography is great and the film is very powerful in its elements.
The part when mother Kray realizes what her boys do "for living" is very powerful and told with the very effective tools of cinema.
The Krays is important piece of 90's cinema and very powerful depiction of different kinds of corruption that finally lead to destruction and death of dreams.

The Krays are two of the most important, and most famous, crime figures of all time; so I guess it's only right that they should have a movie made about them.
The Krays distances itself from biopics of other crime figures by the way that it follows the protagonists from when they were children.
This allows the film to get inside of the Kray twins, rather than just focusing on their crimes and that gives the film more of a point, and makes it more than just another crime flick as we're given reasons to care for the characters, rather than simply being treated to their crimes.

The rest of the country, indeed, even the rest of London, remained unaware of the Kray family activities until 1964, when a newspaper reported a story that Scotland Yard was investigating a homosexual relationship between an underground criminal and a distinguished Peer.
The Krays and their men were by no means the only gang in London, this led to infighting and rivalry that eventually would spill over into violence - particularly with associates of the Richardson brothers.
The Krays were finally arrested by the same Scotland Yard officials who had been trailing their exploits for years and along with other members of their gang, including Charlie Kray, they appeared at the Old Bailey in 1969.

The Krays - Synopsis - Moviefone
The Krays were twin gangsters who ruled London's stylish East End club scene, staking out their territory by committing the most violent crimes imaginable, preferring to perform the most torturous acts themselves.
Brought up in London's East End in the 1930s, Ronald and Reginald Kray are raised in the resentful world of Violet, who is hateful of her lot in life and bitter at the control men have in running the world ("Housework is a lethal business," she says).
In their self-contained world of Us-Against-Them, the Krays rapidly rise to the height of power, first taking over the territory of a petty mobster by violent means and then putting together an underworld empire of posh clubs, cars, and fancy suits.

The genius of "The Krays," Peter Medak's new film about the most notorious villains of modern British crime, is that the movie is not simply a catalog of stabbings, garrotings and bloodletting.
There's a most horrific film to be made about the Krays, because what Peter Medak has done is just the tip of the iceberg of the atrocities they committed.
It arrived on this continent having set box-office records in England, where the Krays are still serving the long prison sentences that brought an end to their empire.

deseretnews.com - Movie review: The Krays | Deseret Morning News Web edition
Though they are virtually unknown to Americans, "The Krays" were the most notorious gangsters in the history of England, and this movie about them is guaranteed to chill audience members to the bone.
Twin brothers Ronald and Reginald Kray, played by Gary and Martin Kemp (best known as musicians with the rock group Spandau Ballet), were racketeers who ruled London's East End during the 1950s and '60s.
The film begins with their childhood, where the Kray brothers develop a special "twin" relationship, a sort of psychic attachment that allows them to feel each other's wavelength and understand each other even when nothing is expressed verbally.

DVD Talk Review: Krays - Geordie Connection
The Krays: Geordie Connection purports, according to the DVD cover, to "investigate the minds of the most notorious gangsters in UK [United Kingdom] history!" and that "Ron and Reg [Kray] confess ALL!" Hardly.
The Krays: Geordie Connection is a stultifying mess of recent interviews with British hoods, combined with wretched camcorder video documenting real-life gangster funerals and reunions, all tied together with Steve Wraith's personal story of becoming the notorious Kray's "Geordie" connection.
By the mod, swinging 1960's, the Kray brothers had managed a curious feat: they were popular society figures, famous with the general public because of their nightclub ownership, while at the same time they were criminal overlords of the East End, involved in hijacking goods, strong-arm robbery, extortion and murder.

Because of Medak's exceptional feeling for the period and for his subjects, "The Krays" may be the sort of film that will linger in your mind weeks and months after you've seen it.

First, the Kray boys are played by Martin and Gary Kemp and, while they’re also twins and share an exquisite sense of style with the real mobsters, neither is really that good an actor.
