The settlement by the River Kraszna became a town on July 1, 1997.
Ecsed was surrounded by moors and when the Rivers Szamos and Kraszna inundated the area nothing, except water could be seen.
The seven metre high wooden memorial was made of a 300 year old oak tree cut in half symbolising the Rivers Szamos and Kraszna which fed the Ecsed moor.

 IEE Author wins main prize at 1999 Kraszna-Krausz book awards - The IEE
Russell Burns received one of the two main prizes at an award ceremony at the Royal Society of Arts in London earlier this month.
His book,  Television - An international history of the formative years published by the IEE, was described by the Kraszna Krausz Award judges as a "well illustrated and meticulously researched book" and "an indispensable work of reference for anyone interested in the history of television".
Burns' book won against formidable competition from a record entry of nearly 300 books from 11 countries.
