Krell Industries Inc. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Krell Industries Inc., founded by its C.E.O. and chief designer Dan D'Agostino, is one of America's largest manufacturers of high-end audio systems.
While most of their acclaim has come from their power amplifiers and CD players, with the Master Reference Amplifier which is priced at some $100K being their top-of-the-line model, they also make pre amplifiers, loudspeakers, subwoofers, SACD players, and more.
Krell Industries derived its name from the movie Forbidden Planet, about a race of aliens called the Krell, who have unlimited power.

 H. Gabriel: Review of Krell, Contagion
Krell's examination of Novalis' nature philosophy centers on the mouth as a point of exchange or interaction, one that he shows to function for Novalis on both a sexual and a physiological level.
Krell readily acknowledges the debt his study owes to Derrida and the critical tenets of deconstruction throughout his notes (see particularly note 10, 170-1), and this dependence on deconstruction proves to be both a blessing and a curse.
Krell himself concedes as much in his study's conclusion, professing finally only the hope that his work has shown Hegel's system to be a "privileged place for learning this new kind of reading," one that he admits here is not really new at all (164).

Krell KAV-400xi Integrated Amplifier By Alvin Gold
Krell amplifiers went through a fallow mid-life period some years ago, but has recovered spectacularly with the powerful and capable FPB range, which is aimed directly at the cost no object audiophile end of the market.
If you happen to have Krell CD or SACD player, you'll have a good use for the balanced input, not least because balanced operation with Krell is not window dressing, but an integral part of the Krell ethos, and in contrast to some other balanced designs, backed by fully balanced internal circuitry.
The baby Krell is a little different in one other respect too, in that an add in PC board will be available to add FM tuner facilities to the basic amp, turning the basic 400xi into a compact, high power stereo receiver.

Krell is one of the most familiar and highly regarded names in high end audio—it is sort of the BMW of the high end—performance comes first and this has led to a cache whereby other products frequently are compared to Krell.
Krell is accordingly able to offer 5-year warranties on their products and the warranties are transferable to other buyers.
Krell is usually at the forefront of engineering, as I will discuss in more detail for the FPB600 amp.

The Krell KCT preamplifier is the finest preamplifier Krell has to offer and is the result of the development of Krell’s best amplifier, the Krell Master Reference Amplifier.
As I unboxed the Krell KCT preamplifier, the cliché “built like a tank” was the first thought that came to mind.
The Krell KCT is the first preamplifier to incorporate Krell Tunnel technology, which is a circuit design that Krell claims is the most efficient signal transmission from input of the preamplifier to its output.

Krell feels this is the best way to achieve near Class A operation without all the necessary heat expenditures a fully Class A topology, as in their higher end models, would require.
Krell’s reasoning for such a decision was to allow the end user the ability to run in bridged mode for increased power.
The most frightening aspect of the Krell’s presentation was that it even at its loudest, there was still headroom to spare.

 Krell KAV 150a
Krell is one of the golden names of the hi-end market and is renowned for designing and building top-notch no-compromise solid state electronics, with the aid of state-of-the-art technologies and components.
Well, the little KAV 150a does what it can to give us an idea of what the Krell bass range actually is. It is powerful and articulated but it clearly lacks the depth and the "breath" of its bigger brothers (sound pretty obvious, uh?).
The KAV 150a is the first step into the golden world of Krell amps and it should be seriously considered by anyone who's searching for a powerful amp with a gentle sound.

In the 21 years since Krell was founded, it has served as both bellwether and stalking horse for the high end -- possibly to a greater extent than any other high-end manufacturer.
From the beginning, with the KSA-100 in 1980, Krell designs practically set the template for high-end "style." Gargantuan, strikingly handsome, clad in subdued anthracite and gold livery, the KSA-100 was as much a design manifesto as it was an audio component.
Krell products are still massive, still based on solid engineering, still hew doggedly to their own path, and they still generate controversy.

With the Krell arrangement, you could use the three-channel amp for the center and surround channels and the even-better two-channel amp for the front mains.
Each amp has a trigger input; in an all-Krell system, you can connect the two-channel amp to be triggered by the 250p stereo preamp for two-channel listening, while triggering the three-channel amp with your surround processor for home theater use.

Krell SACD Standard CD/SACD Player Review By Alvin Gold
But Krell's CEO, Dan D'Agostino, is on record with the view that SACD is more likely to succeed long term than DVD-Audio, and it is this, along with the somewhat simpler engineering challenges involved, which provide the best clues why the SACD Standard reached the market in advance of a universal player.
Although it has Standard in the name, this model is a thoroughbred which deploys familiar Krell technologies, among them ultra wide bandwidth, balanced mode internal circuits, and a variation on the current mode topology that is increasingly being used elsewhere by Krell as an alternative to the usual voltage mode gain stages.
Although the Krell SACD Standard is not exactly bargain basement given the recent high tech universal players from Pioneer, Denon and others that also include digital outputs from DVD-Audio and SACD and high-grade video, at prices that Krell can't hope to match.

 Krell KAV 300 i
The KAV 300i is the smallest integrated amp made by Krell though the adjective "small" isn't well suited for this savage beast, capable of 150 watts RMS per channel on 8 ohms and 300 watts per channel on 4 ohms (I'm referring to the official specs here).
The KAV 300i is much more similar to a BIG Krell than to its cousin KAV 150a....a gutsier and tastier family feeling and the famous bass range to die for.
Krell designers should consider this safety issue quite seriously, especially considering this amp doesn't come cheap, to say the least.
