Because freed American slaves settled in Liberia, it is a descendant of American English.

I was the Other in terms of being darker skinned; the Other because of not speaking Kreyol well; the Other because of different traditions in the household.
For having seen the Carimi and the now defunct Konpa Kreyol live, I can attest that they rock and I even prefer their live music and recordings to their studio albums.
