The 1972 constitution adopted as state policy the Awami League's (AL) four basic principles of nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy.
Relying heavily on experienced civil servants and members of the Awami League, the new Bangladesh Government focused on relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of the economy and society.
The BNP soon charged that police and Awami League activists were engaged in large-scale harassment and jailing of opposition activists.

All major political parties are yet to apply for registration with the Election Commission (EC), two years after the enactment of a rule that requires the exercise to streamline general elections.
But as the rule is not mandatory, the parties including the Awami League, Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami have not taken it seriously.
The Krishak Shramik Janata League, led by Kader Siddiqui, Bir Uttam, did also apply.

Awami League chief and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Sheikh Hasina on February 14 said that she would initiate a dialogue with all political parties and socio-cultural forces to put an end to ‘politics of killing, atrocities and revenge’.
The Awami League gharana (clan), during the last five years of Hasina government, left more than sufficient proof of its passion and capacity for cooking up gang cases against opponents, casting a wide net of suspicion to connect targeted individuals with possible perpetrators of an offence.
Blacked out by much of the media that still remains wedded to the Awami League gharana, the demonstrators, comprising of families of victims of crimes against humanity and rule of terror during the tenure of the last Awami League government, tongue-lashed the civil society luminaries in the Convention for their silence all these years.

As Niraj puts it: After the bomb attack, the Awami League could of taken the moral high ground, but instead they choose hartal, squandering their one and only chance to lord it over the BNP.
In comparison of all the policies my favorite would be Awami League, but I am sorry to say the leaders of Awami League are not acting to the greater cause of the peace and stability of general people of Bangladesh.
Awami League, BNP and Jatiyo Party to some extent have achievements in their tenures.

Ruling alliance lawmakers mounted a blistering attack on the Awami League (AL), going largely beyond the agenda of discussion on supplementary budget in parliament yesterday in the absence of the main opposition.
They accused the AL and its President Sheikh Hasina of hindering the democratic process, thwarting the wheels of development and creating chaos and confrontation amid encouraging desk thumping by their treasury bench colleagues including Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and senior ministers.
Earlier, Speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar in response to a point of order by Krishak Shramik Janata League lawmaker Kader Siddiqui told the House the proposed budget for the fiscal 2004-05 was placed in a full parliament.

Though avowedly a national party, the BSP has yet to exert much influence outside of the large state of Uttar Pradesh, whose government the party has led several times.
The deep and mutual hostility between the BSP and the Samajwadi Party – the other leading state party in Uttar Pradesh, whose support is mainly Other Backward Class or kshatriya – has led the BSP into government with its erstwhile ideological enemies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (whose leadership doesn't discriminate on basis of caste).
