 County of Scania (Sweden)
Thus, the two counties in Scania were known as the County of Kristianstad (Kristianstads län), situated in the northeast of the province, and the County of Malmöhus (Malmöhus län), situated in Scania's southwest.
The arms of the County of Kristianstad consisted of a red erased griffin head, beak and tongue blue, crowned with a blue crown and with five plumes in red, silver, red, silver and red, extending from the crown, all on a gold shield.
In other words, the arms — and the flag — of the County of Kristianstad were taken from the crest of the arms of the city of Malmö, while the colours — griffin head in red on a gold field — were those of the province of Skåne.

A County, or Län, is an administrative and political subdivision of Sweden.
The Counties were established in 1634 on count Axel Oxenstierna's initiative, superseding the Provinces of Sweden to introduce a modern administration.
The most significant change to the County system took place when Sweden, after the Finnish War, was forced to cede the Eastern counties to Russia in the Treaty of Fredrikshamn (1809).

 Kristianstad : Introduction | Frommers.com
Called the "most Danish of Sweden's towns," Kristianstad actually was a part of Denmark -- for 44 years.
The fortification period ended in 1847, and once the ramparts were leveled, Kristianstad expanded, building Parisian-style boulevards that earned for it the name "Little Paris." The only parts of the fortification still left are portions of the northernmost system surrounding what now is the residential district of Utanverken.
After a century and a half without the restricting fortifications, Kristianstad has expanded to become the largest town in the county, just as Christian IV had hoped.
