Krokus is a hard rock/heavy metal band from Switzerland.
It enjoyed some popularity in the 1980s through MTV exposure and videos which made Krokus the most internationally successful Swiss rock band.
In Europe, they toured with Nazareth and in the United States with AC/DC, Motörhead, Rush, and Judas Priest.

KROKUS started out in the early 1970's in Switzerland as a band that wanted to sound like YES and Emerson Lake and Palmer.
Still, though the word KROKUS is the Swiss spelling of a flower, it has a Heavy Metal sound to it in the English language.
Still, KROKUS did have some good Metal tunes in their history, and KROKUS: The Definitive Collection captures nearly all of them on a CD remastered by Bruce Dickenson and Mark Wilder.

The current personnel lineup only sports two original members, vocalist Marc Storace and guitarist Fernando Von Arb, and while it's entertaining enough to look at the pictures of these aging metal maestros in the multi-page CD booklet, I must admit that the band hasn't missed a beat over the years.
Other Krokus "faves", including "American Woman", "Stayed Awake All Night" and "Tokyo Nights", are included as well, but unlike many past-their-prime bands, Krokus don't sound like they're going through the motions; they play with a genuine passion.
Krokus may have stood the test of time, but unless you're some sort of freako-Krokus-fanatic, 1986's Alive and Screamin' release should deliver all of the classics that you want (or can stand).

Fern (A.d.R.: Fernando Von Arb) and I had just finished doing a TV Interview at that moment, and it was Bernadette, our charming promo-lady, who broke the news to us with a mobile phone to her ear and tears in her eyes.
There were old Krokus mamas and papas like myself in that singing crowd and their teenage children knew all the lyrics… and they all chanted Krokus… Krokus… Krokus… in one united voice.
Krokus definitely has my first priority now but when we take a break again I can still go out with my band.

One of the most interesting recordings in the Krokus discography, Stampede was not at all timely, but with its distinctly non-Krokus lineup -- including the derivative but talented vocalist Peter Tanner -- this 1990 release works as well or better than many of the band's more recognized offerings.
Joining Tanner on Stampede are first-time Krokus members Manny Maurer (guitars), Tony Castell (guitars), Peter Haas (drums), and longtime Krokus guitarist/songwriter Fernando Von Arb, who curiously plays bass on this record.
Stampede isn't exactly a real Krokus recording, but it is one of the finest discs with the group's name printed on the cover.

The bands career has spanned over 3 decades, and while Krokus isn’t the most technical or innovative band out there, they still put on a very solid and entertaining show.
We ended up leaving the show before it was over, but I’m happy I finally got a chance to see one of the few bands that I never got a chance to in the past.
I’m hearing that there is the possibility that Krokus may tour here again in 2006.

got a couple of old Krokus albums but not really my scene, their stuff is quite good but more like American Glam Rock than Metal, somehow lacks the body and the grunge of a good HM band.
I caught an L.A.area show of every tour Krokus did in the early 80's."Metal Rendezvous" was a classic metal album.I hope the new material is on a par with the music of the few U.S.releases.Their later stuff,in my opinion,was inferior.

I became familiar with Krokus back in 1982 when I was at this party and someone was playing the One Vice at a Time album.
With all due respect to Randy and the boys, Krokus' version of this song kicks serious butt and sounds deliciously good cranked up to maximum volume.
I know their cover of Ballroom Blitz is dreadful and after that I refused to buy any more of their albums.

Krokus was one of the few, if not only, Swiss hard rock band to have commercial success in the US.
Well, record company budgets are comparatively non-existent nowadays, it’s a hand to mouth existence for many bands and only dedicated and talented artists with a natural talent for survival and who are ready to do huge sacrifices, actually manage to keep going.
With Krokus, I paid my dues in the eighties when we managed to dig out a comfortable niche for us with much struggle and hard work.

While in some cases in their past it was true, there were others where the band really laid that to rest i.e.

Recently long-time KROKUS guitarist Fernando von Arb was forced to relinquish his role within the band, prompting the dismay of several KROKUS fans.
I think in the 1980’s the doors were still open and we (KROKUS) were lucky to have come out in the 80’s and made the spring over to the States when the whole market was open then.
And it’s the same with anywhere else — why would the Germans want to accept a new band from Switzerland or from Belgium or from Malta or from France when they have so many good musicians and bands of their own who are struggling to forge recognition.

In "Screaming In the Night" Krokus are probably going for more of a rock thing than metal, but my favorite cuts are "Ready To Burn" and "Russian Winter".
If you're thinking of getting a Krokus album get this one it's probably best listened to when driving in you're car down a highway with the radio turned up.
If you're not a heavy metal fan then keep the hell away, but if you're a Krokus fan then be adequately prepared to rock.

THE SWISS rock group Krokus performed at Mississippi Nights on Monday evening.
Although Krokus has been around since the late-1970s, the group has never been able to hit on the right formula to catapult it into big-league success.
The group comes on like gangbusters, with heavy riffs galore and a fairly melodic style, but few of its songs are memorable enough to have much staying power.
