Kronos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kronos is the title of a 1957 science fiction film.
Kronos was the name of a secret workstation (32 bit, graphical user interface) developed in the Soviet Union in the mid 1980s.
Kronos is also the name of a character in the highlander tv series.

 Scifilm -- Reviews, KRONOS (1957)
It turns out that Kronos is being mentally directed by Elliot to seek out nearby energy sources, and the power which it taps is beamed towards the planet of its extraterrestrial inventors, who have depleted the natural energy sources of their home planet.
As it is, KRONOS is one of the few SF films of the era in which nuclear weapons are shown to only to be virtually impotent in dealing with the menace, but only make it stronger.
The animated Kronos moves too quickly against the hand-drawn background, and is considerably less imposing than the "solid" Kronos, appearing to be somewhat slimmer, and with a lighter, greyish-fl tone.

the musical score by clint mansell and the kronos quartet is terrific -- the best i've heard this year -- and deserves consideration, although i fear its hopes are closely tied with the film's general reception by the academy.
with the aid of the kronos quartet, the ground-breaking american new music string quartet, mansell marries his aggressive and looping industrial and electronic sounds with the kronos' signature muscular performance style to create an abrasive, if at times oddly romantic, score whose simple and relentlessly repeated melodies are strangely hypnotic.
for this film, mansell has written for both electric and acoustic instruments, including the four strings of the kronos quartet, whose members (including their new cellist jennifer culp) are no strangers to genre-crossing projects.

The film opens with two beautiful girls from the nearby village enjoying a day in the forest (OK, you already know one of them is a goner).
The film is wonderfully restored and presented in anamorphic widescreen.
The films atypical adventurous score, presented here in Dolby Digital 2.0 mono, is also transferred well for a thirty-year-old track, and is free of any hissing or other audio distortions.

The film was the first in a proposed series about Kronos the Vampire Hunter, but despite the success of the formula, the character was never to resurface.
Perhaps the driving beauty of the film is not the glorious cast, the gothic setting or stunning camera work and humour, but the hunt of the vampire.
Kronos in his capacity as professional vampire-hunter, employs both outright techniques and folklore in his quest.

Kronos is a vampire hunter as well, but of a slightly advanced sort.
Kronos is played by Klaus Janson, a flaxen-haired, chisel-jawed Swede who wears an Imperial Guardsman's coat and carries both a rapier and a katana.
This is one of the few films that dared to stretch the vampire mythos within the Hammerscape concept, and it's a neat idea.

The original idea was for the film to spawn either a series of movies, or a TV show, based on the central character.
Kronos is aided by a hunchback (quite hilarious when you think about it, just why were there so many hunchbacks in medieval times?) This character — with the strange name Prof.
Kronos must track down the vampires, and save the day — aided by his new found traveling companion, Carla, played by the ever lovely Caroline Munro, whom he finds in the stocks, covered in old tomato, having committed the unpardonable crime of “dancing on a Sunday”.

dOc DVD Review: Kronos: Ravager of Planets (1957)
Kronos would best be described as "not very good." It fits in with many similar sci-fi films of the era, but it makes a bad example of the work in the period.
In fact, the film is billed as part of the Wade Williams "collection." At present, I don't know or remember who Wade Williams is, so I'm not sure of the significance of this person.
Kronos is enjoyable as a very dated movie and would make a good rental for classic film buffs, but I would recommend others stay away.

Far more intelligent and absorbing than your typical giant-rampaging-monster-on-the-loose flick, Kronos is one of my top picks for 'most underappreciated science fiction film,' possessing one of the more ingenious SF concepts of the 1950s (see also Monolith Monsters), as well as one of the decade's coolest, ahead-of-its-time alien invaders.
Competently directed by B-film veteran Kurt Neumann (The Fly, She Devil), the film unfolds like a mystery, building slowly at first, adding a few plot twists, then really kicking in with the appearance of the colossal metallic "energy collector", subsequent scenes of devastation, and final assault on Los Angeles.
The Image DVD presents the film in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, and while the source print exhibits some light speckling throughout, the brightness, contrast, tonal values, sharpness, and detail are uniformly excellent.

Clemens' creation of the character Captain Kronos was hoping to revitalize the company's vampire genre and at the same time generate a new series of films (rumors of a TV series also surfaced).
Captain Kronos (played smoothly by German actor Horst Janson) is a 19th century war hero traveling across Europe with his brainy hunchback sidekick Professor Grost (John Cater from the "Dr. Phibes" films).
Filmed mostly outdoors (the perpetually scenic Black Park location) with the usual budget constraints, CAPTAIN KRONOS: VAMPIRE HUNTER is by far Hammer's most unconventional and original vampire film.

Film school, especially the good ones, isn't about learning stuff you could learn from talking to directors-hell, I learned all the stuff my friends in the Film/TV program are learning in a month at Miami when I was in High School-it's about making--AND KEEPING--contacts.
It's about having teachers (depending on the film school) who have actually worked in the industry, whether it be H-wood or independently, who have at least made a few films and have experience to share with students.

Britmovie - Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter
Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter, was the first in what was planned as a series of adventures for the young hero of the title.
In it, Horst Janson plays the Aryan-like Captain Kronos, ex of the Prussian army who - with his hunchbacked assistant Professor Grost (John Cater) - roams the countryside in search of vampires (a result of having discovered that his mother and sister had been turned into vampires while he was away fighting in some war).
Sadly, the film failed to find an audience and all future cases for Kronos were subsequently cancelled, though the film has since gone on to become a cult item.

As for the film’s vampire, it too is of a different variety- draining off a person’s youth, instead of their blood.
Mixed in with a good deal of action is the element of mystery, as the audience is left to guess the identity of the vampire from a number of carefully laid out red herrings.
The film element used for the transfer is in good shape, displaying minor blemishes and a bit of a grain structure in various places.

In a planned series of adventures, Kronos would be seen hunting down the undead throughout the ages - hence the suggestion of 'time' in his moniker.
It was decided to keep options open as to whether the Kronos series would suit the big screen or television; the latter was an area Hammer were keen to move into.
It seems a shame that Kronos wasn't given chance to develop further than this 'pilot', and that Clemens never got a chance to direct again, but for all its fudged moments and lost opportunities, it remains an intriguing heap of fun.

 Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter
But, after a duel in the tavern where Kronos dispatches three hired killers, including the fearsome swordsman Kerro (Ian Hendry) with one imperceptibly fast stroke of his samurai sword, it's clear that the vampire hunters are drawing close to their quarry and that if anyone is a match for this monster it's Kronos…
Nonetheless, the film is all but stolen by Ian Hendry's turn as Kerro, the actor seemingly drawing on his own bitterness and dissipated nature – an alcoholic on a career slide, his talent largely unrecognised – to invest the character with a venomous swagger.
In sum, while Captain Kronos is maybe of interest first and foremost as a historical curiosity and hint of what might have been, it is also a thoroughly entertaining adventure romp in its own right that deserves to find an audience among today's horror/fantasy fans.

When it was announced that Philip Glass had written a score for the film (the original version had used excerpts from uncredited classical composers) I thought it was a terrific idea and immediately purchased tickets to this night.
The Kronos string quartet, conductor Michael Riesman and Philip Glass were positioned behind the screen in a circle, but were lit moodily and thus clearly visible through it.
Once the film began to unreel, I expected the lights on the musicians behind to dim and for the projected image to be clear and unaffected by their presence.
