Doomsday (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Doomsday was artificially created by Bertron, a mad scientist with no morals working on Krypton, Superman's home world, though neither he nor his creator were Kryptonian (this was done prior to humanoid life evolving on Krypton).
Doomsday is essentially able to adapt and overcome any opponent because of the process by which he was created (he was always stronger than he had been prior to his last death).
Through decades of this process, the being which would eventually become Doomsday was forced to endure the agony of death, thousands upon thousands of times; the memory of these countless deaths was recorded in his genes and drove it to hate all life.

Through comics, radio, movies, television, novels, games, bedspreads, bread...you name it, Superman was a part of it and while the basics are known to everyone (Krypton, Metropolis, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, superpowers, etc), different generations think of different Supermen when his name is mentioned.
I mean, I don't think the marriage to Lois should be ignored in one title and not the others...but the nitty-gritty of Krypton's history and Clark's years in Smallville and travelling the world before Metropolis are up the creators' whim and shouldn't be overly constrained.

Krypton (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Named after the chemical element krypton, the planet was created by Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and was first referred to in Action Comics #1 (June 1938); the planet was given its first full-fledged appearance in Superman (volume 1) #1 (1939).
Soon, beginning in the Superman comic strip, Krypton was shown to have been an evolved version of Earth, older by eons and possessed of all the beneficial progress that implied (though the downside was the hint that Krypton exploded due mainly to old age).
In its first appearance, Krypton was only depicted at the moment of its destruction, the nature of life on Krypton being unaddressed and frankly irrelevant to Superman's adventures on contemporary Earth; the plain fact of his extraterrestrial origin was considered sufficient enough to explain his superpowered status.
