Originally, Krypton was only depicted at the moment of its destruction, the nature of life on Krypton being unaddressed and frankly irrelevant to Superman's adventures on contemporary Earth; the plain fact of his extra-terrestrial origin was considered enough to explain his exalted status.
Eventually, Krypton was shown to have been a evolved version of Earth, older by eons and possessed of all the beneficial progress that implied (though the down-side was the hint that Krypton exploded due mainly to old age).
However this early version of Krypton would be returned to after it was established that the Golden Age Superman of Earth-Two, whose background and Krypton of origin was more in tune with the original conception of the character, was a separate and distinct character from the contemporary Silver Age Superman of Earth-One.

It is hoped that the reader will be tolerant of the inclusion in this Glossary of some terms which are obvious to the specialist in the area of their use, but are unclear to many others who work actively in other areas associated with atmospheric chemistry.
In order to enhance the convenience of this Glossary to the user and in view of the specialized nature of many of the atmospheric chemistry terms, we have repeated here the definitions of many terms which appear in other IUPAC publications, rather than including only a reference to the IUPAC publication.
It is the hope of this Commission that the Glossary will serve the Atmospheric Chemistry research community and lead to a more precise and uniform choice of common terms in the communication between atmospheric scientists around the world.
