Parramatta Council has knocked Ku-ring-gai Council from its unenviable position of being the slowest council in the state to process development applications.
But Ku-ring-gai Council's record has not improved much.
Ku-ring-gai held the dubious honour for two years but was slugged into second place by Parramatta, which takes an average of 159 days, or about five months, to process development applications, the 2003-04 annual report card on local councils has found.

As I have said, whilst I do not always see eye to eye with all elected to councils, I think such a system would produce a council that is broadly more representative of the Ku-ring-gai community.
I would suggest to the council that at some stage of its current four-year term it have a good look at the voting system.
I was pleased with the determination that voters will have a chance to elect the mayor of Warringah on the next occasion on which there is an election.

What we achieved last Tuesday night was that the Council passed a motion to prepare a DLEP to present to the Department of Planning, which after a three month exhibition period will give all stake holders in the community time to consider the proposal.

When the council issued rate notices at the end of last year it distributed to every household a pamphlet entitled: "Preparing Your Home Against Severe Storms".
In areas that are prone to floods or bushfires, councils could issue similar pamphlets stating what to do when those emergencies strike.
All too often local government is criticised and not complimented for a positive initiative such as this, which is of help to everyone in the area and which many other local councils could adopt.

Owners of established gardens are not told what they can and can’t plant but Ku-ring-gai certainly has a reputation for imposing its own ideas about suitable plants when plans have to be submitted.
Murraya must be a particular favourite up there as Wombat has also had Council insist on it in a plan instead of Trachelospermum in a narrow space against a fence.
Council apparently took him to task for substituting French lavender in his garden for the Murraya paniculata shown on the original DA landscape plan.

Councils that have the condition of their bushland mapped using systems other than the Ku-ring-gai Municipal Council system are Hunters Hill, Lane Cove and Ryde City.
These council areas are Hornsby Shire, Hunters Hill, Ku-ring-gai Municipal, Lane Cove, Parramatta City, Ryde City and Willoughby City.

 History of St Ives
The suburb of St Ives is within the municipality of the Ku-ring-gai Council and is some 20 kilometres north-west of the centre of Sydney.
In the early 1980’s St Ives Shopping Village Centre was expanded to cater for the growing population and the changing demographics of the area and was officially re-opened on 19th October, 1981 by the then Mayor of Ku ring gai Alderman Brian J Taylor.

 Penrith City Council Media Release: Playgroups rate top in home energy trial
The Home Rating tool is currently only available for residents of Penrith City and Ku-ring-gai council areas, with the pilot running from the end of March until June 11, 2004.
Their help is part of the bigger Energy Smart Home Rating tool pilot, currently being trialled by the NSW Government’s Sustainable Energy Development Authority in partnership with Penrith City and Ku-ring-gai Councils.
During that time, Penrith City residents can book an in-home audit to get an official energy rating for their home and a personal action plan to save energy.

 Wahroonga Guest Book
IN MEMORY of Richard Geddes, former Mayor of Ku-ring-gai, and a good friend ofthe Rotary Club of Wahroonga, Ku-ring-gai Council has decided to build a band rotunda in Wahroonga Park in his memory, and our club has agreed to play a major fund-raising role.
The rotunda was a vision of Richard Geddes, who served the Council for 12 years, including three as Mayor, up to his death suddenly on May 27.
The council had contributed $12,000 towards the concrete base, and $18,000 has been committed from the Chamber of Commerce and St Ives Shopping Centre.

 UTS to consider expanded campus options for Kuring-gai
An application to have the campus site rezoned is currently with Ku ring-gai Council.
Local residents and community groups directly contributed to the process by providing input that has resulted in an application for rezoning which addresses key environmental, heritage and planning issues.

Tweedshire Council in NSW introduced a free lead testing service for paint for local residents recently.
The local government rate-charge system has been altered to allow waste removal to be charged outside the controlled Council rates.
When asked whether he thought lead litigation could be as big as asbestos litigation, he said "we can only hope it will be that small".

Ku-ring-gai then tried to develop a plan for the remainder of the rail corridor, with a maximum of five storeys, but this was deemed inadequate.
The Mayor of Ku-ring-gai, Ian Cross, said: "In one go, the minister will ruin their standard of living and the developers will run rampant."
But the move is likely to cause anger among residents, who turned up in their thousands to oppose even the council's more modest plans for a maximum of five-storey development.

We have been issued with a document by Ku-ring-gai Council entitled a Draft Heads of Agreement dated 8 April 2003 in which a number of technical matters are specified in relation to our use of the KMWTC site.
The biggest change piece of news for the Club this year is that our main event, the KMWTC Interclub, normally held around the middle of June every year, cannot be held at our own premises on account of pressure from Ku-ring-gai Council in relation to the environment (see Committee Chatter).
This is on account of the Club being given a directive last year that the 2003 event be the final trials event permitted by the Council.
