In 1935 an Indian, Kuda Bux, and two British scientists walked across a 12 foot fire pit, containing mainly oak embers at about 800 degrees Fahrenheit.
Neither Kuda Bux, Hussain nor Adcock were burned at all, and the others received minor blisters at worst.

The University of London Board of Studies in Psychology responded positively to this proposal and, in 1934, the University of London Council for Psychical Investigation was formed with Price as Honorary Secretary and Editor.
Price's psychical research continued with investigations into Karachi's Indian rope trick and the fire-walking abilities of Kuda Bux in 1935.
He was also involved in the formation of the National Film Library (British Film Institute) becoming its first chairman (until 1941) and was a founding member of the Shakespeare Film Society.

I don't think I'd try the "Blindfold Drive"...think about how stupid it is! Years ago Kuda Bux and others did that.
They had the blindfold put on and drove a car...think about how that would go over today!

 Remembering the Past
I feel very fortunate to say that I saw performances by Don Alan, Albert Goshman, Del Ray, Richiardi, Karrell Fox, Bob Lewis,and Mike Caldwell, just to name a few.
Though I would have loved to have had the opportunity to see Jay Ose (heard he was incredible), Bert Allerton, Matt Schulien, Max Malini, Kuda Bux, and so many other I have read about.
It's that time of the year when we reflect and I feel very honored to be involved with magic and to be part of the history.

I thought this was a charming story (when I was about twelve) but subsequently pieced together some surprising evidence.
I found a book in my stepfather's library publishing photographs of that very same cycle journey of Imrat Khan, whose real name was Kuda Bux, and detailing the very same path he undertook.
I also found out about the history of the Pestalozzi homes, possibly the orphanage the Henry Sugar character founded.

On the bill was Kuda Bux, the "Man with the X-ray Eyes." (Was this where I first heard of Kuda?) Also on the bill was a female variety act, Donna Delbert, who did conjuring, whip-cracking, and fire-eating.
The joke was that, if Kuda Bux had X-ray eyes, why didn't he see through "Donna Delbert's guilty secret"?
(My theory is that Kuda did spot the secret but was too much of a good egg to turn in a fellow performer.
