At least seven people were slightly injured today as a strong earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted Tokyo and areas of eastern Japan.
The quake occurred at 12.55pm, with its focus located 80km under the seabed near the coast of Kujukuri in Chiba prefecture, some 80km south of the capital.
The seven were injured after loose pieces of a wall at a Buddhist temple in southern central Tokyo's Ota collapsed.

Fatal explosion rips through Chiba sardine museum KUJUKURI, Chiba -- An explosion ripped through a sardine museum here early Friday, killing one worker and leaving another one with severe burns, police said.
The force of the blast blew a hole measuring about 10 square meters in the roof of the building, and scattered glass and concrete inside.
The museum, which had a floor space of about 8,000 square meters, was connected to the Kujukuri central community hall by a passageway about 20 meters long.

Just before that Togane-Kujukuri road hits Kujukuri beach you pass the toll booth for the Kujukuri toll road (410 yen).
Immediately after the booth you turn right onto the Kujukuri toll road and follow the coast line for about 10-15 minutes.
Just beyond the exit to the Kujukuri toll road you come to a T-junction with a large convenience store parking area on the left.

In their second year of junior high, students have shizen kyoshitsu -- nature school -- where they do nature stuff: build fires, find pinecones, climb mountains.
For Kujukuri, this is held in Kiyosato, a small town in Yamanashi, and the peak to be climbed is Mt. Amigasa which stands at over 8,000 feet.
It's quite a departure for most of the kids who've lived their entire lives by the ocean.

My daughter will be attending university there for three months, so I wondered what type of clothing would be appropriate.
Last year, a friend and i were walking on Kujukuri, and we found a sex-doll washed up on the beach.
It was a very expensive looking one to (i'd guess), not just some rubber blow-up deal but somewhat lifel-like.

FROM EDITOR: I went to DX pedition at Kujukuri, Chiba on March 7-9.
Though I expected to pick up rare heard station in Indonesia, the DX condition was not so good.
On Jan 5, I hrd it on 4076.5, which was much easier to hear than the 100.5 kHz spur on the other side of 3976 at 3875.5.

An explosion at a sardine museum near Tokyo on Friday severely injured two people and blew a large hole through the roof, police said.
The blast in the coastal town of Kujukuri, about 65 kilometers (40 miles) east of Tokyo, occurred just before opening time and there were no visitors inside, a police spokesman said on condition of anonymity.
A 63-year-old male worker suffered burns over large parts of his body, and a 66-year-old female employee was found unconscious and covered by rubble and debris.
