 Bojutsu: The Staff and Stick Arts of Hontai Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu
For the Hontai Yoshin Ryu this was the third soke, Takagi Gennoshin Hideshige, and for the Kukishin Ryu this was the fourth soke, Ohkuni Kihei Shigenobu.
According to traditional lore of the Hontai Yoshin Ryu, the bojutsu style it incorporates was originally characteristic of the Kukishin ryu bojutsu.
As with other components of the Hontai Yoshin Ryu, there are various levels of proficiency and competence in the use of staff and stick that help in one's understanding of the techniques and in their application from form or kata to actual encounters.

 9 Ryu of the Bujinkan Dojo:
This ryu is a battlefield style whose specialty is the use of many different weapons including spears, swords, hanbos, etc. Many of the weapon techniques (hanbo, bo, yari, naginata, etc.) in Bujinkan come from this school.
The third of the ninja ryus, it uses similar taijutsu as Togakure Ryu, and is also known for double blocks and strikes This ryu originated with Einaizaemon Ienaga Iga in the mid 1500s.
Not much is known of this ryu except that it is an Iga ninja school and concentrated more on the espionage side of ninjutsu, rather than the fighting side.

 Hontai Kukishin Ryu Bojutsu History
Hontai Kukishin Ryu Bojutsu was a tradition from Ohkuni Onihei through the Yakushimaru and Ohkuni families.
Kukishin Ryu Bojutsu has three parts which are Hanbojutsu (including Sensudori/Tessenjutsu), Jojutsu and Bojutsu (Rokushaku-Bojutsu).
The top fighter of the Oda side and the Kukishin Ryu expert Inaba Kaja Yoshitame (another story is Kuriyama Ukon) who fought using red oak Rokushaku-Bo of an octagon shape while horseriding.

Ishitani Matsutaro, already the Soke of Takagi Yoshin Ryu and Kukishin Ryu, was later repaid for his kindness by being taught the Gikan Ryu, becoming the 11th generation Soke.

As the Kukishin Ryu was from the coastal area of Kumano, and members were involved in activities relating to the sea, it was a weapon that was permanently at hand, for the skilled warrior.
The Kukishinden Ryu dakentaijutsu is a form of Yoroi Kumi Uchi a grappling in armor, and the Takagi Yoshin Ryu a form of jujutsu that is used indoors.

Yasushimaru was the recorded founder of the Kukishin ryu if we believe recorded dates Izumo abnd Yasushimaru lived 200 years apart, therefore izumo could never be associated with something was created 200 years after his death.
This school is only a sword school, not taijutsu etc. Hatsumi has brought all of his other Kukishin Ryu studies into the Bujinkan and dumped them along side the Kukishinden, I suppose ina way creating a new school.

As I was taught, the Jo of Kukishin Ryu is basically a compination of the strikes from both Sanjaku and Rokushaku Bo.
Can anyone provide reliable info (especially on the kukishin ryu side), I know that the SMR are well represented here.
I was told that the kukishin ryu stresses locking, choking, and throwing with the jo much more than modern jodo, is this a fact?
