Kula Shaker are a British psychedelic rock band who came to prominence during the Britpop era.
The first stirrings of Kula Shaker came about in 1988 when Crispian Mills (grandson of Sir John Mills and the son of '60s actress Hayley Mills and film director Roy Boulting) met Alonza Bevan at Richmond College, london.
Kula Shaker's reformation has its origins in sessions for a charity album made with the Californian 'School of Braja', work for which was begun in 2004.

It's obvious Kula Shaker have had a influence from the early 60s and the 70s, but striking to me was the resemblance of the music to Deep Purple.
I think Kula Shaker are a great band, and they've definitely won a fan with their live performance.

Kula Shaker's main gimmick is that they use heavy Eastern influences in their music, mixed with the occasional Sanskrit lyric and sitar instrumental.
Kula Shaker were at their best (which ain't much) when they were playing pop songs influenced by the Beatles, the Faces and the Kinks.
Kula Shaker do have their moments, it has to be said, and easily the best of these is the wah-wah implosion of Hey Dude, the lead-off track and the most well known of the songs on here.

I don’t know if the background sitar playing was by virtue of one of Darlington’s synthesizers or if Ravi Shankar was offstage somewhere but, nevertheless, "Tattva" came off without a hitch and was, in fact, one of the highlights of the set.
