Kumano (熊野市; -shi) is a city located in Mie, Japan.

After learning all about cars, we headed to the town of Kumano, up in the mountains, which is home to Japan's largest calligraphy brush company.
We ate lunch in the cute cafe at the Kumano brush factory, and then watched a video about how the brushes are made.

In this small town, 80% of all calligraphy brushes in Japan are produced.
I originally found out about this festival from one of my students, who is from Kumano, and was doing a speech on the event.
