  Kumarana Asan Poet Laureate of Kerala
Kumaran Asan, one of the famous triumvirate poets of Kerala in the first half of the twentieth century, (others being, Vallathol Narayana Menon and Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer), was a beacon-light to the downtrodden and depressed classes of Travancore State.
The poet in Kumaran emerged during this period and he began to contribute poems in Sanskrit and Malayalam to several periodicals in Kerala.
The crowning achievement of Kumaran Asan was his “Buddha Charitha” in 5 volumes, for which he got inspiration from Edwin Arnold’s “Light of Asia”.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the ongoing project of the Department of Culture to publish works of poet Kumaran Asan, the Thonnakkal-based Kumaran Asan National Institute of Culture has brought out freshly edited volumes of the poet's works Nalini, Leela and Karuna.
The first copy of Nalini was received by Asan's granddaughter Nalini, while the first copy of the CD was received by the poet's grandson Vijayakumar.
Copies of the books released on Thursday and those of the cassette and the CD will be available for sale at the Asan National Institute of Culture and at leading bookstalls and cassette shops.
