Let us start with a bad one- on a recent tour a tourist was refused his visa- there was some confusion when the DPRK Embassy in his country rang up his company (they were unable to confirm he worked there) and subsequently they could not authorise his status and no visa was issued.
Unfortunately the tourist had already departed and it was not until he arrived in Beijing to hear the bad news- this was our first failed visa in 2 years but things do go wrong and you have to be aware of this before you travel.

Despite the tourist trail that lead through the North; all other aspects of daily life were preserved beyond the fences.
Here the rules that once were presented to us on life and death terms ceased to exist as we were no longer tourists, but guests welcomed in the presence of the esteemed.
