Kun Tao is the southern (Fukien/Hokkien) word for martial arts.
The Kun Tao portion however did not retain the influence of the Chinese, probably because the art most likely came from Borneo where they practice an art called Kun Tao Bankui.
This is why Grandmaster Carlito Lanyada changed the spelling of his ancestor's art from Kun Tao to Kuntaw, to relate more to the Tagalog tongue.

 Kun Tao
Kun Tao, also spelled "kuntao" or "kuntaw," has best been described as "old Gongfu." It is an archaic form of Chinese martial arts that has largely remained untouched with the passage of time – practiced within the isolated Chinese ethnic enclaves of Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
The fundamental roots of Kun Tao may be found in the Chinese internal martial arts of Hsing le, Taiji, and Pa Kua.
So, although the martial arts are still widely practiced, most of the teachers of Pencak Silat and Kun Tao, schooled by the tradition of centuries, have died or emigrated.
