Historically, after the Meiji Restoration, Hyuga Province was renamed Miyazaki Prefecture.

Forage rice will be grown on 270 hectares in paddy fields of Miyazaki Prefecture in 1999.
Recently, increased interest among farmers and official supports by Miyazaki Prefecture has accelerated forage rice production.
'Forage rice requires no extra investment in machinery, but the yield is more than ten tonnes per hectare, which allows feeding two cattle during the winter,' said officials at Kunitomi district.

With the additional investment, Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Ltd., a Hitachi subsidiary, will be producing 300,0000 plasma panels for television sets per month at the Kunitomi compound in fiscal 2008, compared with the initial target of 250,000.
The Kunitomi plant currently has a capacity to produce 100,000 panels per month.
The launch of the new plant will be put off from early 2006 until the autumn of the year or later, Hitachi said.
