Kunta Kinte is the central character of the first half of the novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family by Alex Haley.
Haley's novel begins with Kunta's birth in the villiage of Juffure in the Gambia of West Africa in 1750.
Kunta is the first of four sons of the Mandinka warrior Omoro and his wife Binta.

Goofs: Anachronisms: When the Slave Doctor is examining Kunta Kinti in Annapolis (in 1767) he is singing and humming the song "Pop goes the Weasel".
The full lyrics to this song were not published in America until 1850 with the earliest music version first written sometime after 1799.

I don't want to be presumptuous by assuming that he does not know about Alex Haley, The Roots, Kunta Kinte (a Muslim brought to America, not quite walking on the red carpet).
Instead of Kunta Kinte, I should rather say, in plural, all those Kunta Kintes!
Sohail would not consider such historical record, lasting all the way up to just a few decades ago spanning the time of slavery to racism even long after slavery was abolished, as among the "tenets of civilised governing, like liberal democracies and physical safety of average citizens" as he wrote.
