He organized a sufficient supply of raw casein from France and, together with Dr. Bartels, adapted the necessary machinery and developed the ‘dry process’ of manufacturing casein plastics.

Born in Leipzig, Kunth became a merchant's clerk in Berlin in 1806.
Kunth worked as Humboldt's assistant in Paris from 1813 to 1819, in which he classified the plants that had been collected by Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland during their journey through the Americas.
When Kunth returned to Berlin in 1820, he became professor of botany at the University of Berlin, as well as vice president of the botanical garden.

 Charles Sigismund Kunth
KUNTH, Charles Sigismund (koont), German botanist, born in Leipsic, 18 June, 1788; died there, 22 March, 1850.
From 1813 till 1819 Kunth devoted his time to classifying the plants that had been collected by Humboldt and Bonpland during their journey through America.
Returning to Berlin in 1820, he became professor of botany at the university, and vice president of the botanical garden, and in 1829 was elected member of the Academy of sciences of Berlin.

In 1820, Martynov included several of Carl Sigismund Kunth's names published in 1815 with descriptions in French.
Martynov altered the French terminations to Latin, and while none of the names is attributed to Kunth, Kunth is recorded as the source of each of the names.
Each name was assigned the rank of "koleno" or tribe, by Martynov, even though Kunth's own names were either unranked or at the rank of section.
