The Devonian rocks on Kupreanof Island are stratigraphically overlain by Mississippian to Permian gray and green siliceous phyllite, metachert, fossiliferous metalimestone, silicified limestone, metagraywacke, polymictic, matrix-supported metaconglomerate, and minor amounts of greenstone of the Cannery Formation, and Permian limestones and dolostones of the Pybus Formation.
The extent of Mesozoic regional deformation prior to intrusion of zoned ultramafic rocks of the Blashke Islands and northeastern Kupreanof Island with K/Ar ages of approximately 110-100 Ma (Lanphere and Eberlein, 1966) is uncertain.

Conspicuous fresh-looking pahoehoe and aa lava flows overlie glacial till at Kupreanof Island in the central panhandle of SE Alaska.
Two probable vents are found to the north within Mesozoic and Paleozoic rocks at the northern end of the Castle Islands in the Duncan Canal fault zone, and at Indian Point the flows contain inclusions of picrite.
At High Castle Island, the basaltic flows are columnar-jointed and overlie planar to cross-bedded coarse sandstone and poorly sorted volcaniclastic conglomerate.

Jackson said that unsustainable logging on Kuiu and Kupreanof Islands over the last fifty years is one cause of the severe drop in the island's deer population, which has forced villagers to travel farther to hunt.
The community saw the end of its own logging days when all the commercial logging equipment owned by Kake's native corporation was barged south earlier this year.
"I've fished the waters off Kuiu Island for years, and I've seen first-hand the effects of logging on bays that used to provide phenomenal fish habitat" said Dave Beebe, a commercial fisherman from Kupreanof.
