Kuroiso City is a major Bridgestone production hub, with four facilities located in close proximity.
The Tochigi and Nasu plants manufacture tyres for both commercial and industrial applications, while the Kuroiso plant produces the steel cord used by Bridgestone in the tyre manufacturing process.

KUROISO, Japan, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A raging fire in a Japanese Bridgestone tire factory Monday forced the evacuation of more than 5,000 people, authorities said.
All 850 employees of the tire plant in Kuroiso escaped to a nearby car park, the Mainichi Daily News reported.
An evacuation order was also issued to 5,032 residents of the surrounding area because of the harmful smoke billowing out of the factory.
