Although Tucholsky still took part in a contest for the 9th war bond() in August 1918, he returned from the war in the autumn of 1918 as a convinced anti-militarist and pacifist.
Tucholsky himself later described the work he had done on as a mistake, which he had got into because of financial difficulties.
