	Kuruba - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Kurubas were great warriors and had established many ancient kingdoms such as the Hoysala kingdom in Karnataka and Pallava kingdom in present day Tamil Nadu; they reached their zenith of prosperity between AD.1300 and AD.1600 under the great Vijayanagara Empire.
		Kuruba or Golla or Yadava is a community which is existed in Ramayana days (8,80,000 -Eight lacs eighy thousand years ago) or Mahabharata times(around 5000 years ago) when the castes in Vaisya or Sudra community is getting divided in terms of the trade, they do's.
		Kurubas today have become the voice of all the deprived communities of the society grouped under Backward Castes.

		The Kuruba community in Karnataka is up in arms over the demolition of the Kanaka gopura in the Krishna temple in Udupi, and this has thrown a spanner in the works of the Sangh Parivar.

	Karnataka to issue modified ST list, drop 3 castes
		Minister of State for Information, B.K. Chandrasekhar told reporters here after a cabinet meeting that in the wake of objections by the Centre against the state including castes such as, Maleru, Maaleru and Kuruba, the names of which were not found in its list, the government decided to delete them.

		The kuruba (shepherd) community raised an ill-conceived stir alleging that the "arrogant upper caste" Brahmin Swami had insulted Kanakadasa (a saint-poet who was one of the well known Haridasas in the 1500s, whose compositions are popular even today - he belonged to the kuruba community).
		It is true that Kanakadasa was unjustly denied entry into the temple by the Brahmin priests at the time - legend has it that Lord Krishna created a breach in the temple wall for his ardent devotee and that breach is preserved today as a window in the temple wall referred to as Kanakana kindi.
		It is fairly obvious that the Swami had no vested interests in undertaking the reconstruction (and reconstructed it was, in May 2005) - for the Kuruba community to view this as an insult to their community is not only delusional but also smacks of caste-ist activism to gain political mileage.
