Topic: Kushan (Homeworld)

Kushan (Homeworld) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kushan was a powerful empire divided into extended families called kiithid, centered on the planet of Hiigara before they fell from grace in a war and were exiled from their world on pain of death.
After returning to their homeworld and destroying the Taiidan Empire, the Kushan lived out their life and recovered from the war, fighting other fights as explained in Homeworld: Cataclysm.
The real-life origin of this invented word may be related to the Islamic word Hegira, referring to the Prophet Muhammed's historic flight from Mecca to Medina.

Homeworld is also full of symbology, with specific symbols for the Kiith in the game as well as the symbol of the Kushan, which is their ancient homeworld and two eagle's wings.
A sequel, Homeworld 2, was released in late 2003.
Homeworld was given high marks by most of the gaming community, and earned numerous awards, including IGN's game of the year award for 1999.

Kushan Empire: development empire kushan technological
Several direct depictions of Kushans are known from Gandhara, where they are represented with a tunic, belt and trousers and play the role of devotees to the Buddha, as well as the Bodhisattva and future Buddha Maitreya.
The Kushans are again recorded to have sent presents to the Chinese court in 158–159 CE during the reign of the Chinese emperor Han Huan.
These remnants of the Kushan empire were ultimately wiped out in the 5th century by the invasions of the White Huns, and later the expansion of Islam.

The revelation that the Kushan genetic makeup was highly unlike any other life-form on the planet, and the eventual discovery of a huge alien ship, the Khar-Toba (First City) in an extremely remote section of desert, would lend final proof to this "XenoGenesis Theory".
Over remaining levels of the game, the Kushan encounter other alien races, including the benevolent group of traders known as the Bentusi (The Unbound), and the hostile, fanatical and enigmatic Kadeshi, who seem to be a branch of the original Hiigarans that left the group during their exile.
In the game, the Hiigarans (Kushan) must defend their newly recovered home from the Vaygr, a powerful nomadic raider race led by a man named Makaan, who managed to rally his normally warring race after recovering the second of the three hyperspace cores (quantum waveform generators) in a remote region of the galaxy.

With the exception of a song by the rock group "Yes" entitled "Homeworld", most of the music in the game is ambient, matching the loney but beautiful enviorment of deep space.
In September 2000 a stand-alone expansion was released, Homeworld: Cataclysm.

The ancient Kushan have left their homeworld as exiles and have settled on the desert world Kharak, where over time they would reconstruct their civilization from the ground up, their heritage dwindling into myth and legend.
From the needleship emerge swarms of swarming fighters, all of whom descend upon the Kushan in a frenzy of attack.
Unfortunately for the Kushan a jump is not possible as the Kadeshi mothership is able to project an inhibition field, preventing the Mothership from forming and maintaining a quantum wavefront.

Homeworld: Cataclysm eschews the setting of the original game and offers a new 17-mission campaign, a new faction that has a lineup of unique ships, and a completely new villain to fight.
While in space, you answer a distress call from a fellow Kushan vessel under attack by remnants of the Taidan empire, and you are thrust into a role that takes you from being just an innocent mining clan to being the saviors of the galaxy.
Homeworld is both an excellent game and one that may well reshape the entire real-time strategy genre.

The climactic battle in which your race reclaimed its homeworld, Hiigara, from the clutches of the Taiidani Empire would turn out to be only the beginning of a new era in Kushan history.
First, that they had successfully completed the quest to retake their planet of origin, and second, that all of the friends and family that they had left behind were slain by the Taiidan.
In the fifteen years since the Kushans made planetfall on Hiigara, there have been several attacks by renegade Taiidan attempting to reclaim the world for themselves.

Homeworld changes the rules completely by having each mission built upon a segment of the story.
Homeworld never reveals the humans which reside in the myriad of ships you control, and rarely refers to individual characters, which makes the voice acting that much more crucial to connecting with the gameplay.
Homeworld's soundtrack and voice-acting are astounding in the way that they can pull incredible emotions out of a character-less game.

 RTSC Homeworld Overview
Homeworld, developed by Relic Entertainment, and published by Sierra Studios in 1999, is one of the first true three dimensional Real Time Strategy games out.
Homeworld takes full advantage of a good 3D graphics card, although it looks pretty lo-res compared to what's doing the rounds these days, especially its graphically intense sequel.
Homeworld boasts a relatively small and civilised gaming community, but an enthusiastic one nonetheless, judging by the number of custom mods that have appeared.

Kushan, Because I finished the game with them first so now I have this deeply implanted hatred for the taijdan.
Hmm, I completed the campaign as Kushan, but I have no real aversion to the Taiidani design, except for the fact that most of their ships look like fish, whereas Kushan ships are modular, industrial, efficient (except for those darn vulnerable, but cool-looking antennae).

I think it might be intresting to have them turning evil at some point in homeworld 2, that would make the plot SO original.
Well, the only way I could see the kushan being "evil" in the homeworld universe is if they desided to take out the Tiidan.
The Kushan were originally in control, then the Taiidan took over, in that war we all hear about so often (Especially when prequels are mentioned) in a rebelion cause the kushan were corrupt.
